Server Uptime Monitor
Server up-time monitors tell webmasters one of the most important things they need to know on a constant basis, whether their website is available or not to their customers.
With a bricks and mortar store it is usually obvious to its staff whether it is open and even the owners will usually find out quickly if for some reason it isn’t. This should be just the same for an online store especially as a missing website can lead regular shoppers to wonder if the shop has closed down. Other websites, commercial or otherwise also need to be up in order to serve their purpose from government websites offering citizens information to private hobby sites offering blogs and discussion. In all cases the owners and staff will have put effort and usually some money into getting a site up not to mention the amounts some websites spend on promotion, this can all be wasted if a site goes down.
Though usually when a site goes down it is only for a short time and may be caused by server problems caused by the server company, this can add up to hundreds of hours a year if it happens regularly. A website that is only up 90% of the time is down for nearly 900 hours per year and if a webmaster doesn’t realise they can’t even get money back from their hosting provider or move elsewhere. Luckily server uptime monitors keep a track of downtime which includes the reasons, the total time down, the number of times down and the average amount of time the website is down each time.
In other cases it may not be the hosting companies fault, servers need some management by those hiring them, those hiring an entire server will need to reset it every now and again to clear its cache and so on or else the server may stop working and in these cases it wont start working again until something is done. Imagine if an e-commerce store goes down for a weekend in the run up to Christmas and no one realises until Monday morning or if a small website’s owner goes off on holiday and their site goes down and they don’t realise for two weeks. Server uptime monitors can send out alerts to webmasters and owners not only by email but also SMS making sure they find out as soon as possible plus often being bale to give the reason why.

What is Server Monitoring Software
Server monitoring software can be a worthwhile investment for webmasters then as it can notify them if their servers have problems. Most servers being remote to the webmaster isn’t a problem as the software can monitor servers wherever they are and send out alerts. These alerts can either be via software on their own PCs or using a remote monitoring service that can notify them by phone, e-mail or SMS.

Windows Server Monitoring
While a windows server will rarely be sat at even by a technical or network manager and may even be remote its functions are vital to the users of the networks based upon it and not just that it is running but that it is running well and everything works as it should. Many offices without a full time network manager can waste hours of valuable time if a server isn’t working as it should and though windows server software is reliable to a point it is far from fool-proof.
